Stillberg Davos – a new partner of TreeNet

Stillberg reforestation site becomes TreeNet’s newest partner

As part of the EU project FORWARDS (funded by SERI), which aims to prototype a future European observatory for the effects of climate change on forests (climate smart forestry), we installed dendrometers on larch trees in previously thinned and non-thinned plots to monitor growth effects in the Stillberg reforestation site. This high-elevation reforestation site run by SLF Davos was established in 1975 by planting 92,000 trees to study reforestation methods for avalanche-damaged forests and to develop sustainable measures to reduce avalanche risk in protective mountain forests.
