TreeNet

The biological drought and growth indicator network

Welcome to TreeNet

We turn automatically measured stem radius changes of trees (in a micrometer resolution!) into growth patterns and drought stress indicators of forests in Switzerland and elsewhere.

Watch trees in your region growing, live! Did you know that tree stems shrink during the day and expand during the night and that trees grow mainly at night?

Actual growth and tree water deficit data in Switzerland (see map). Displayed are the indicators for actual growth (upper map) and the tree water deficit (lower map) relative to the performance of the past 5-10 years.

The colours of the dots indicate whether the trees at a location grow better (dark green) or worse (yellow) and whether the actual water deficit of the trees is above (red) or below (blue) the average compared to the measured years.

Explore TreeNet data also on the webpage of the Swiss National Centre for Climate Services (NCCS, FORTE)
